When you search for engine parts, you may notice that each one comes with a number of letters or letter combinations as part of the line listing. These are known as alpha codes.

The red arrow indicates the location of the alpha codes in the line listing. Some, like this Ball Bearing, apply to several different engines.

We use the alpha codes to identify the various parts used in engines. In many cases the same part, for example the high speed needle valve or a front ball bearing, will be used in several different engines. Since the part number is the same across several engines, it can be confusing when trying to order a replacement part and finding that the part number says, for example, 5021; yet it is used in the 50, 56, and 65 engines. By using the alpha code with the part number, one can quickly see which engines are using the same parts.

Now the arrow is pointing to the alpha codes used in the example below. In this case, the alpha codes refer to the Saito FA-100 and the Saito FA-100GK, respectively.

Taking a quick look at the search results for "Saito", you can now know exactly which parts go with which engine, if you use the alpha codes. For example, look at SAI10006 in the example above. It's a piston with the alpha codes QQ and UU. Now look for QQ and UU in the Saito portion of the chart below. This tells you that particular piston goes with the FA-100 (QQ) and the FA-100GK (UU). It's just that easy.
